Video Surveillance Cameras

What’s more effective real-time video surveillance or vehicle patrols?

Vehicle patrols or courtesy patrols as some call them are a reactive form of security.  The reason why they are labeled reactive is because they do not actively prevent crime.  This is usually due to geography and time constraints.  In order for a security agency to make money they have to either charge a large amount of money per client or they must pile numerous client patrol sites on the patrolling guard.  You can imagine that placing a large volume of patrols on the guard becomes too hard to complete with in a 10 or 12-hour period of time. This is extremely difficult when every client site is under contract to be patrolled 4 or 5 times per night.

What generally happens because of this scenario is the patrol officer is forced to skip patrols for various clients that are out of the way.  Guards are forced to complete their rounds very quickly in order to check the box on their report sheet.  They are left with no time to adequately patrol the site for potential criminals or the identification of hazards.

If they do identify a problem it is usually after the fact and the time it takes to deal with it is taken from another client.

The average time a patrol guard takes to complete a round around a client’s property is 5 minutes.  This means the officer spends 25 minutes or less on the property within a 10 or 12 hour window.  Due to this large gap in coverage the guard usually spends most of the time behind the wheel driving to sites in order to play catch up.

Criminals often take advantage of these gaps by waiting for the guard to leave the site. Once the guard completes the round criminals move in on their opportunity. Since it will be at least 2 ½ hours before the guard returns the criminal has time to execute the plan with one less thing to worry about.  Vehicle patrols are a complete waste of money.

Real-time video surveillance cameras programs monitor your property constantly.  Cameras never leave the site and are equipped with tracking capabilities.  As movement is detected on the property the camera will automatically follow the movement.  A software generated prompt will alert the technician to take notice.  If it’s determined that a crime maybe taking place, the technician will engage the potential criminal in the following way:

Technicians will attempt to make contact with the person using two-way audio.  Usually this is enough to deter the criminal. Technicians will call local law enforcement as needed.

The choice is simple save money and increase security coverage with a system that works.  For more information on real time video surveillance cameras contact us on the web: http://kprotection.com
